The Congress on Thursday suspended senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar from the primary membership of the party and issued him a show cause notice after he made an abusive comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a stinging reply to the unsavory and unsolicited comments by senior congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyyar earlier in the day. Addressing an election rally in Surat, Prime Minister took strong objection to indecent remarks made by Aiyyar and said that the congress leaders are speaking in a language that is not acceptable in democracy.
Without naming Mani Shankar Aiyar, Prime Minister Modi hit out at him and stressed that a Congress leader, who has studied in best institutions, served as a diplomat, was a Minister in Cabinet has shown his Mughlai mindset in using the improper language
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was forced to intervene. He suspended Aiyar from primary membership of the party and issued a show-cause notice to him for his comments. Following the prodding, Mani shankar Aiyyar issued a clarification, far from expressing regret on his choice of words.
Unsolicited comments by Mani Shankar drew condemnation from all quarters. BJP president Amit Shah tweeted to register his strong objection to the undignified remarks. Political leaders downrightly condemned the statement of Mani Shankar Aiyyar .
In January 2014, before the crucial general elections Aiyar had said that Modi will never become the Prime Minister but if he wants to distribute tea here at AICC venue we will find a place for him.
The chaiwalla remark later became a key plank for the BJP which started "chai pe charcha" in distant parts of the country to drive home the message.
