In Nepal, second and final phase of parliamentary and provincial election has been completed successfully.
Polling for 128 constituencies of House of Representatives and 256 seats of Provincial Assemblies was held in 45 districts today. Our correspondent reports that as per preliminary estimate 67 percent voters exercised their franchise in the last round.
With the completion of much awaited parliament and provincial elections a mandatory constitutional requirement has been fulfilled. As per the new constitution of Nepal it is necessary to complete local, provincial and parliamentary elections by 21st January next year.
Local elections have already been conducted. Meanwhile counting of votes for first phase of polls held on November 26 has begun. Votes of second and final round of elections held today will be counted once all ballot boxes reach respective district head quarters. It is expected that after the result of this historic elections democracy will further strengthen and a new era of political stability and development will begin in Nepal.
