    New Delhi: Delhi's iconic Oxford Bookstore and renowned author, music and cinema scholar Yatindra Mishra collaboratively presented the second chapter of the musical series Sur Sabha titled "Nritya mein Bhakti aur Shringar". The event featured Padmashri Geeta Chandran, Ms. Prerana Shrimali and Mr. Inni Singh as prominent panelists.

    Sur-Sabha is a series of talk sessions promoting Indian folk and classical music, bringing out the essence of the divinity involved in the rich musical heritage of the Indian subcontinent. The series has been specifically curated, aiming in popularizing Indian folk and classical music. The first Sur Sabha titled Boondhan Fuhar was conducted discussing Monsoon Songs noted musicians like Meeta Pandit, Sunanda Sharma, and Swaransh Mishra.
    The evening witnessed an exchange of views on the classical heritage of Indian dance forms, deep-rooted since ages which reaped acknowledgment from the world community. The underlying essence of all Indian dance forms being Bhakti (devotion), the talk discussed various aspects of spirituality in dance forms like Kathak and Bharatanatyam besides the elements of Shringar in dance which establishes a very close nexus between materialism and religious pursuit lending the human touch to devotion.
    ABOUT THE PANELISTS
    GEETA CHANDRAN
    A celebrated artist and a star-performer, Geeta Chandran began learning Bharatanatyam from the tender age of 5 years under the tutelage of Smt. Swarna Saraswathy, who hailed from the traditional Thanjavoor Dasi Parampara. Subsequently, Geeta continued learning diverse aspects of the classical dance from a galaxy of eminent Gurus. Today, she is a renowned artist who has synthesized the knowledge she received from her Gurus to imprint Bharatanatyam with her personal vision of the dance. In her dance presentations, Geeta Chandran skilfully weaves abstract notions of Joy, Beauty, Values, Aspirations, Myth, and Spirituality.
    PRERANA SHRIMALI
    Prerana Shrimali is a senior dancer of Jaipur Gharana of Kathak. She received her training in dance from Guru Shri Kundanlal Gangani. Having mastered in the grammar and the complexities of the Jaipur style, with her grace, innovativeness, and imagination, she ranks among the most illustrious and reputed classical dancers of India today. She is a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2009.
    Equally competent in pure dance and "Abhinaya" (Expression), Prerana shrimali has endeavored to expend the Kathak repertoire by choreographing new and highly acclaimed compositions based on poetry, ancient, medieval, and modern. Exploring verses of Meera, Kabir, Padmakar, Ghalib & french poet Yves Bonnefoy etc.
    INNI SINGH
    Inni Singh is a Delhi-based businessman with a passion for photography and music. He runs a musical instrument store in Delhi, himself plays Tabla and shoots musical and dance concerts with his professional camera. He has very aptly studded his passion for music and art into business, thus bridging the gap between interest and livelihood.
    YATINDRA MISHRA
    Yatindra Mishra is an Indian poet, editor, music and cinema scholar, who comes from the lineage of the Ayodhya Royal Family. He has penned down essays on literature and the arts, poems, reviews, critiques of classical music and cinema published in leading Hindi magazines and journals. Few among many achievements including Parampara Rituraj Samman, Jananpitha Fellowship (Bhartiya Jananpitha), 2015, New Delhi.
