Andaman and Nicobar Island is witnessing heavy rainfall due to well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. According to Meteorological office in Port Blair, Port Blair has recorded a rainfall of 95.5 mm till 5 a.m today.
The well marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea is very likely to become a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and further intensify into a deep depression during subsequent 48 hours. It is very likely to move towards north Tamil Nadu - south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 3 days.
Sea condition will be rough to very rough.Due to the bad weather, the holiday has been announced today in schools across the Islands. Boat services to Neil, Havelok and Rangat have been cancelled. Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman Udit Prakash Rai said that all precautionary measures have been taken to deal with the situation.
