The 107 years old Sheth Jamnabhai Bhagubhai Homeopathic and Biochemic Dawakhana Trust achieves the distinction of being the first homeopathy trust in India and perhaps the world to have provided assistance to over 30 lakh patients. It is the oldest such institution in Gujarat and possibly in India. The focus of the Trust has been to provide assistance to all for treatment of various ailments through homeopathy with nominal consultancy fees.

Established in 1904, this Trust was founded in Ahmedabad by the late Sheth Jamnabhai and his brother the late Sheth Mansukhbhai at Kalupur in Ahmedabad. The homeopathy hospital was the first of its kind in entire Gujarat, which served the people of Ahmedabad and surrounding areas effectively. The hospital has been regularly upgraded since 1986, after Mr. Rajiv Vastupal took charge as the Chairman and Managing Trustee. Currently the hospital has 9 doctors with 8 support staff. Due to the continuous efforts of Mr. Vastupal to maintain and improve the services offered to patients coming to the hospital, a physiotherapy center was also started in 1989.

Mr. Rajiv Vastupal, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Sheth Jamnabhai Bhagubhai Homeopathic & Biochemic Dawakhana Trust has spent a lot of his energy as well as monetary resources to nurture this unique institution. “I believe in ancient and alternate medical treatment techniques. Homeopathic therapy was developed during the eighteenth century and its popularity is increasing in the modern times. I could identify the importance of this trust as it is one of the oldest and its objective was to provide medical treatment to everyone at nearly no cost. To manage the operational costs, our Trust has gradually increased fees from 5 paise in 1962 to Rs. 5 in 2003 which has been kept unchanged since then.”

Due to its proven track record, the Trust had registered patients of over 25,500 in the year 2010-11, including some non-resident Indians (NRIs). Currently, this Trust is providing medical treatments to all age groups – right from infants to aged persons. The Trust provides treatments like first aid, acute illnesses, chronic illnesses, women’s issues, pregnancy-labour-postpartum & breastfeeding concerns, infant & children’s issues, men’s issues, as well as ailments like post-herpetic neuralgia, piles, fisher & fistula, menopause, uterine fibroids, warts on skin, hair falling, baldness, pimples, normal fever, diarrhea, vertigo, vomiting, cardiac, cancer and AIDS. The Trust also provides treatment to manage daily stress and fitness.

The trust has also started a separate division of Physiotherapy in 1989 under the leadership of Mr. Vastupal. The physiotherapy centre is currently well equipped with all the latest exercise instruments including the electro therapy, muscle stimulator, ultrasound therapy unit, physio-wax, examination couch, high-low treatment table, continuous passive motion (CPM), complex exercising unit, exercise chair, traction set cervical, Inter Ferential Therapy (IFT), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) etc.

Mr. Vastupal further added, “Indian homeopathy treatment market is likely to grow 30% annually and reach a size of Rs. 4,600 crore as the number of users is growing fast within and outside the country according to a report prepared by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham). There are over 5 lakh registered homeopaths in the country today, with approximately 20,000 more being added every year. The size of the homeopathic drugs market is also expanding very fast even though these medicines cost only a fraction of allopathic or even ayurvedic medicines. Looking to the future potential for this form of medication, we have renovated the premises at Kalupur so as to allow the Trust to function for another 100 years.”

Sheth Jamnabhai Bhagubhai Homeopathic & Biochemic Dawakhana Trust is thankful to all its past managing trustees and reputed doctors. Currently Dr. Vijay Thekdi and Dr. Insiya Rahi are managing and heading the operations at the Trust.
