The death toll in the spurious liquor tragedy in Golaghat district of Assam has gone up to 25.
Several persons are undergoing treatment at Golaghat and Jorhat.
Golaghat Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh said that the incident occurred last evening at Halimara area.
He said that the area is free from county made liquor but suspected that the illicit liquor was brought from outside.
Police and Excise department are investigating the matter. Two persons have been arrested for allegedly selling spurious liquor.
Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has ordered Additional Excise Commissioner Sanjib Medhi to conduct an enquiry and submit a report within 3 days.
The Minister also ordered the suspension of two excise department officials following the tragic incident.
