  • 33 flee from quarantine centre in Kokrajhar, brought back

    Kokrajhar: Altogether 33 people stationed at Nursing Training Institute quarantine centre situated at Besorgaon in Kokrajhar district fled from the quarantine centre this evening citing poor maintenance and lack of proper food.

    The inmates with their bag and baggage forcefully walked out of the quarantine centre and travelled about 2 km distance when they were stopped and brought back. The inmates had arrived from Andhra Pradesh and were housed at the quarantine centre since today morning. They are from various villages in Kokrajhar.

    “We were not given any food nor proper arrangement since our arrival this morning, said a youth.  “We had traveled all way from Andhra Pradesh without any proper food and water and here too we did not get anything to eat. For how long can we stay like this? So were walked away from there, said another.

    Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan said fleeing from the quarantine centre is a crime and action will be taken against them. “These people forcefully come out of the quarantine centre but our men stop them some distance away and brought back to the quarantine centre. They have some allegation against the facilities at the quarantine centre which will be looked upon. Fleeing from the quarantine centres is illegal and case will be registered and action will be taken against them as per law, Roushan said.

    Meanwhile two more COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed among those at Quarantine centers in Kokrajhar today bringing the total number to 17 in the district so far.

    The two were identified as Biswajit Bhomick, 48 from Gauraipur in Dhubri district with travel history from Andhra Pradesh while Nazrul Islam, 22, is from Salabila Bongaigaon with travel history from Uttar Pradesh. Both of them were at Law College quarantine centre and presently in home quarantine. The swab samples were taken on 22 May 2020.

    There are over 40 quarantine centres in Kokrajhar district with approximately 5000 people from Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa district presently.
