  • 3rd Annual Athletics Meet Inaugurated at Lovely Professional University

    Jalandhar : The 3rd Annual Athletics Meet of Lovely Professional University was inaugurated today by the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal. The event began with the unfurling of University Flag, release of balloons and birds by him. On this occasion, Director General Er HR Singla, Executive Dean Ms Rashmi Mittal, Senior Deans, Deans of the University and other invited guests were prominently present along with him. The Torch-Relay started from the Chancellor’s Office for the University Sports Stadium and was led by the Bronze Winning Boxer Manpreet Singh of the University ,who has already won laurels at the AIU’s 57th All India Inter University Boxing Championship. The two day Meet will conclude on 13th February with prize distribution at closing ceremony.

    Congratulating and boosting all the participants for being ready to put up a tough & healthy competition, the Chancellor Mr Mittal said: “University is investing and also expecting from its students. The credibility and dedication of our Department of Physical Education and Sports will only be ascertained and certified when it prepares maximum number of students for participation at Olympics. Our athletes have already revealed their worth at All India Inter University competitions.” He added: “Sporting and athletic activities are important components in the growth of an individual participant, mentally as well as physically. Such types of competitions rejuvenate the person’s capability to take on his day’s work more efficiently.”

    On this inaugural day, the event started with the March Past by the 27 contingents of the University representing different Schools, Departments and Wings of the University. All the participants took an oath under the leadership of Amritpal Kaur, who has well exhibited her athletic worth at All India Inter University Athletic championship. All sportsmen and women displayed true sportsmanship spirit for the honour of the university and glory of athletics. More than 1000 students and 300 members of the staff from different schools of the University participated in the events such as 100m, 400m & 1500m track race, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Long Jump, Javelin Throw etc. Much charm and attraction remained towards Tug of war between different groups of Staff Members, 400Mts walk above 50 Years and 400 Mts Run and walk below 50 years for men women from the staff. All onlookers were overwhelmed by the spirit and enthusiasm of the students.
