  • 47th All India Sociological Conference : Sociologists should suggests ways to strengthen foundation of Atmanirbhar Bharat: Governor

    GUWAHATI : Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that the sociologists who hold the key for social reformation and transformation should suggest ways to use innovative technology for creating a strong foundation for Atmanirbhar Bharat. Speaking at the 47th All India Sociological Conference held at University of Science and Technology in Meghalaya today, the Governor said that the sociologists who have great insight and understanding towards sociological phenomena of the society should provide technology backed suggestions for making India more self-reliant. He said that the emphasis of the sociologists on family and community at the microscopic and macroscopic level has given new perspective to the understanding of diverse social network of India.

    Taking this system of social network into consideration, the sociologists should prescribe suggestions for strengthening the foundation of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Acknowledging the role of the sociologists like GS Ghurye, RK Muhkerjee, DP Mukerjee, SC Dube, MN Srinivas, the Governor said that they contributed immensely to the better understanding of the people belonging to different tribes, ethnicities, caste and class.

    This understanding led to strengthening the edifice of harmonious coexistence of the country. Prof. Mukhi said that he was happy that the organizers selected the theme “Hundred Years of Sociology in India: Exploring Trajectories for the Future” which according to him will be helpful in lending strength to the country. He also said that the deliberations being held as a part of the conference will help to develop comprehensive policies for better governance.

    Prof. Mukhi said that he felt happy that USTM which is one of the youngest universities is organizing the 47th All India Sociological Conference where over a thousand sociologists from different parts of India assembled. He said that in ‘Amrit Kaal’ commemorating the next 25 years of India’s independence, India is giving more emphasis on science and technology. In this Amrit Kaal scientific innovations are expected to rule the future of the nation. The students of today would shoulder the responsibility of shaping the India of 2047. So, it is imperative that the students are given their rightful exposure to science the technology to develop their sociological outlook backed by scientific temperament.

    The sociological conference was attended by Vice Chancellor of USTM, Prof. GD Sharma, President of the Indian Sociological Society Prof. Abha Chauhan, Padmashree Prof T.K. Ooman, Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi and Former President ISS, Prof Manish K. Vema, faculty members and students.
