Haflong : With the rest of the country, the weeklong celebration of 70th Vana Mahotsav inaugurated at Sibraipur near Kalachand, 15 km from Maibang in Dima Hasao district of Assam on Monday.

The inaugural function was attended by Samuel Changsan, Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council  as Chief Guest while  Nandita Gorlosa, EM, Golonjo Thaosen, EM, Nojit Kemprai, MAC, Ratan Jarambusa, MAC, Monjit Naiding, MAC, Bijit Langthasa, MAC , Padmanav Baruah, IPS, SDPO as the guests  of honour.

From Forest Department, Chief Conservator of Forest, M Tungnung, IFS, DFOs Ramen Das, N Jeme, and Tunu Langthasa along with huge numbers of forest officials were present in the function.

The days started with the ceremonial plantation of saplings by guests, invitees and dignitaries and as many as 15 Gaon Buras from surrounding villages.

This was followed by distribution of saplings to the villagers.

In this connection a well attended public meeting was also held wherein all the speakers emphasised the conservation of forest and water.

Chief Guest Samuel Changsan  in his speech while stressing importance of conservation of trees and water disclosed that now on most of the schemes will add the plantation and conservation of water under job card.

He also appealed to the entire departments to come forward in this noble cause of conservation of water and trees.

Changsan also mentioned that Prime Minister Modi and the NCHAC are committed for betterment of the society while expressing concern over the depletion of forest thereby causing water crisis.

In this noble approach of the government people should come forward for the benefit of entire country.

Earlier, CCF Tungnung while welcoming the guests and other dignitaries explained the aim and objective of the celebration of Vana Mahotsav and appealed to come forward in this great mission with rest of the country.
