Hyderabad: Cycling Federation Of India’s 72nd National Track Cycling Championship-2021 is to be held in Hyderabad from March 27th March to 31st March at Velodrome SATS, Osmania University. The five days event will be hosted by Telangana Cycling Association

Disclosing this in a press note issued in Hyderabad the organising committee comprised of Malla Reddy, President; Katkam Dattatraya, Secretary; Rajkumar Kacharla, Chairman; three Co-Chairmans Anurag Rai Saxena,  Vijay K, Dr Maxwell Trevor and  Vijay Kanth, Venkat Khumbam said Telangana state is privileged to host the National Track Cycling Championship. It is the 1st Championship registered with UCI(Union Cycliste Internationale) which is a history in the making and it will be recognized internationally. This is the first-ever Indian National Championship recognized by the UCI. This means the Championships have been listed in the UCI World Track Cycling Calendar. 

The Union Cycliste Internationale is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland.

More than 700 cyclists, both men and women from across India are expected to take part in the event. They will compete in Individual Time Trail, Individual Sprint;  Individual Pursuit; Point Race; Keirin; Scratch Race; Team Pursuit;  Team Sprint and Flying Lap

The National Track Cycling Championship comes to Hyderabad after a gap of 14 years. 

Telangana Cycling Association (TCA) is a pioneer in the promotion of cycling in Telangana State in India affiliated to the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Telangana Olympic Association (TOA) and Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS). The Association is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of Telangana for the promotion of the cycling sport in Telangana.

Cycling Federation of India (CFI) promotes cycling in India. It is affiliated with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) and Union Cycliste International (UCI). This is the sole body recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India for the promotion of the sport of cycling in India.

TCA’s mission is to direct, develop, regulate, promote and organize cycling sports under all forms in the state. It has  to represent the sport of cycling at State, National & International Cycling events and defend its interest before the National & International Continental & Federations. Apart from that Telangana Cycling Association (TCA) is also associated with Aditya Mehta Foundation for the promotion of Para-cycling by conducting National Coaching Camps for Men & Women. 

Telangana State has a very old heritage of having Pro-Cycling Clubs which are recognized and associated with TCA. One of the oldest pro-cycling clubs is Shahalibanda Cycling Club (Since 1960), Jawahar Cycling Club (1970’s) and Rover Club (1970’s) and the newly formed Maxwell Trevor Cycling Welfare Association which are promoting cycling sport in our state.

The amateur cycling club Hyderabad Bi-cycling Club (HBC) (16,500 cyclists) and Hyderabad Cycling Group (HCG) (8000 cyclists) which promotes cycling is also one of the core members to produce Masters (35+) Pro-cyclists.

Telangana has produced many Cyclists of international repute. International Cyclists include: 

1. Late Shri. Glen Trevor (1 International Cyclist); 2. Dr. Maxwell Trevor (International Cyclist and 10 times National Champion); 3. Late Shri. Richard Clark (International Cyclist and Indian Railways Team Coach); 4. Shri. Kevin Trevor (International Cyclist); 5. Shri. Sunil Vyas (International Cyclist); 6. Shri. Christopher Negorio (International Cyclist);  7. Shri. Russel Turner (International Cyclist); 8. Shri. Kendel Turner (International Cyclist); 9. Shri. Chandra Mohan (International Cyclist); 10. Shri. Ch. Sai Krishna (International Cyclist); 11. Smt. Iswarya Rai (International Cyclist) and 12. Shri. M. Tansihq Goud (Current International Cyclist)

In Telangana State, there are more than 60 pro-cyclists in both men and women who have represented the State and Nation at different Championships and International events. There are around 20 Senior Men & Women, 30 Junior Men and Women and 10 Youth Boys and Girls cyclists in the State where some are in the National camp. We also have International Commissiares (in cycling commissaire is an official approximately equivalent to an umpire or referee in other sports) and Coaches who are internationally recognized. Our state Commissiares are one of the best Commissiares in the country.
