Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure is gaining traction with 45% keen to invest in coming 12 months and 26% in the coming three years

New Delhi: Green living is no longer a buzzword, reveals a survey by MyGate, which indicates that 85% of gated communities in Delhi are planning to ramp up their green infrastructure facilities in the next three years. MyGate, the largest community management app in India, conducted a survey with 800 resident welfare associations (RWAs) to understand the pulse of gated communities towards electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure facilities, solar power and rainwater harvesting. Of the three, solar infrastructure followed by EV are the top priorities. On the other hand, nearly half of the communities had already set up rainwater harvesting facilities.

As per the findings, a large majority (78%) of gated communities in Delhi are planning to install solar power infrastructure within the next 0-3 years. Of these, 48% are aiming to set up the facility within the next 12 months and 30% plan to do so in 1-3 years. Interestingly, 9% had already installed such infrastructure.

The enthusiasm is not restricted to solar power. EV charging infrastructure is also on the minds of RWAs, with 71% of respondents indicating that they intend on installing EV charging infrastructure within three years. Similar to solar power infrastructure, a greater proportion of communities are looking at installing EV charging infrastructure in the next 12 months (45%), rather than the 1-3 year timeline (26%). Just 5% of communities had already invested in EV charging infrastructure.

There also remains interest in setting up rainwater harvesting facilities in gated communities, though 53.8% of communities had already set this up. 29% of communities are planning investment in rainwater harvesting in the next 12 months, with 11.5% and 5.7% indicating that they would get it done in 1-3 years and 3-5 years, respectively.

Commenting on the insights, Mr. Abhishek Kumar, COO & Co-founder, MyGate said, “It is encouraging to learn of the scale at which gated communities are looking to invest in and adopt green infrastructure. At MyGate, we would be glad to use our expertise and create a bridge or assist communities to achieve their green goals, as we have already begun doing in the EV space.”

Respondents to the survey represent gated communities across Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune, and overall results show that the eagerness to go green is a national phenomenon. 73.3% of gated communities across the country expressed an intent to install one of the three major green infrastructure facilities in the near term (0-3 years). 0.6% of the communities surveyed had all three installed.

Across India, 75.4% of gated communities are looking to install EV charging units within the next three years. Similarly, the number of respondents who are keen on setting up solar energy in the next three years is also as high as 75.2%. While close to 53% have already implemented rain water harvesting it is still a key line item when it comes to infrastructure upgradation. Around 38.9% of gated communities are planning to invest in setting up rainwater harvesting within the next three years. While Mumbai (78% of gated communities) is leading with regard to installation of EV infrastructure facilities in the next three years, it is Pune (76.3%) that tops the charts when it comes to solar infrastructure.
