Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday flagged off a fleet of 300 modified motorcycles- Raftaar of Delhi Police to tackle street crimes and make the city safer for women.
These motorcycles are equipped with modern communications technology, GPS and alarm system.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr Singh said, the bikes will be able to reach in congested areas to respond to distress calls where it was difficult for PCR vans to reach in shortest time.
He said, the initiative is an another step towards modernisation of the police.
The Home Minister asked the Delhi Police to become a role model for other States Police forces. He said, in addition to it 300 more such motorcycles will be inducted soon.
