Kochi : The Event Management Association Kerala (EMAK) has urgently called upon the state government to intervene in the current Public Performance of Music licensing tariff structure. EMAK demands the government establish a transparent, unified system. The crisis is caused by private agencies demanding arbitrary fees and licenses for the public performance of music, including private functions like wedding ceremonies. These agencies are improperly applying rulings meant for commercial use.
EMAK’s key demands include: the government must standardize the rate, prevent frequent price increases, and ensure all changes are made only with government approval. They also require a unified single-window taxation system and request the State Government to address license fee reduction for non-luxury event areas and intervene with the Central Government for a permanent solution.
To seek a legal remedy and mobilize the industry against these unauthorized fee demands, EMAK has decided to approach the court. A major industry get-together is scheduled for December 4, at 3:00 PM, at the Chakolas Pavilion in Kalamassery, involving Ankur Kalra, General Secretary, EEMA (national association), EMAK members, event companies, hotel/convention owners, and artists.
“The unacceptable harm caused by these fee demands requires immediate action,” stated Raju Kannampuzha, President of EMAK. “This meeting will collaboratively confront the issue, educate stakeholders, and expose these unlawful predatory practices that directly threaten thousands of livelihoods,” he added.
Representatives from EMAK, including President Raju Kannampuzha, General Secretary Bahanan K Areeckal, and Treasurer Praveen Chandran spoke at the press conference held at the Ernakulam Press Club.
