  • A-LEAGUE: A Recreational Sports League completes 200 days of COVID Relief Work

    A-League by Alaaya Nation, Mumbai’s first 365-day recreational sports league has completed 200 days of nonstop Covid Relief Work. The Cricket League has over 650 players and has been operational for 3 years and has conducted over 850 matches is focussed on fitness and mental health. The League has reached out to over half a million citizens with ration, cooked meals, lifesaving medicines, plasma donors and hospital beds.

    Says Jimmy Mathew, Chief Coordinator A- LEAGUE, “We have an initiative called ANGELS of A-LEAGUE, where we do social reach out programs. When Satyendra Singh one of our youngest members came forward with the idea of providing support to the affected, we were not clear with how we could help but his drive, zeal and dedication ensured that this initiative grew to great heights with support of our members and well-wishers. We would also like to thank Fr Brian Moras and Fr Shekhar Das of St Dominic Savio High School for nurturing and supporting the league.”

    Says Satyendra Singh, Project Head – Covid Relief, A- LEAGUE, “We made sure we distributed in a manner that will not cause commotion or flout social distancing norms. We would identify the affected families and areas and tie up with a local vendor, following which the ration would be picked up from the vendor by a member of the family. In the initial few months, migrant population was the biggest challenge but now it’s the medicines and plasma donors. It’s a challenging situation but it’s a great joy to see patients back home after receiving the right treatment”

    Says Ashwin Shetty an entrepreneur, “The league is always ready with help on medicines and donors. I was able to arrange donors for my friends in a few hours with the help of Satyendra. ” Adds Siddhartha Fernandes a senior executive with a leading bank, “Help with donors and guidance is always prompt. It helped me with my mother’s treatment”

    The initiative continues to feed needy pockets in Mumbai on the back of donations from members and is actively also procuring medicines, sourcing plasma donors and hospital beds.
