Amidst simmering tension in the Arab region , the Russian President Vladimir Putin today called Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in a tweet said that he had received a phone call from the Russian President. He said, they discussed cooperation and key regional and international issues of mutual interest as well as recent regional developments.
The Emirates News Agency reported that the two leaders reviewed the latest regional and international developments, with special emphasis on the current situation in the Gulf region as well as other issues of common interest.
UAE , Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Norway in a briefing to the UN Security Council last week had said that the sabotage attack behind the four oil tankers off the Fujairah coast is most likely a handiwork of a state actor, pointing fingers at Iran , without naming the country.
The US has accused Iran of being behind the attacks but Tehran denies this and has called for an investigation.
Earlier , the decision of Iran to partially withdraw from the nuclear deal last month in retaliation to the sanctions imposed by the US has led to the military escalation in the region riding on the fear of Tehran’s nuclear ambition.
