DEDHAM AND BOSTON, MA : The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named the GZA GeoEnvironmental as a 2019 bronze award winner for engineering excellence for their work on the Centennial Dam Rehabilitation in Dedham, MA.

Rehabilitation of the Massachusetts DCR owned Centennial Dam restored a High hazard dam within a residential condominium complex. The dam also functions as an important flood control structure protecting the metropolitan Boston area. The project brought a 19th century mill dam up to 21st century safety standards, simplified dam operations, and addressed numerous deficiencies. Improvements included reconstruction of the downstream sides of the embankments; construction of an auxiliary spillway weir and lining of existing discharge pipes; construction of a parapet wall along the top of the dam to address overtopping and complete

reconstruction of the right discharge channel wall. GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc. is headquartered in Norwood MA.

The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with special guest emcees Jonathan L. Gulliver, Highway Administrator at MassDOT and Frederick A. Laskey, Executive Director of MWRA.

“Each year we gather to celebrate and recognize engineering firms for projects that demonstrate innovation and excellence,” said Michael J. Walsh, PE, President of ACEC/MA and Vice President of CDM Smith. “We congratulate our winners who work tirelessly throughout the year to advance the goals and values of our organization and the industry.”
