Activists of Assam Movement appealed for a united movement without affecting the academic years

Mangaldai : A section of prominent  activists of Assam Movement have observed the need for a consensus regarding future agitational programmes for scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill -2016 and appealed to all organizations opposing the Bill    including the AASU, AJYCP, KMSS etc to form a common platform so that united their voices come more and more strongly in an well organized manner. Rameswar Sharma , Hiren Kumar Saharia ,Bhargab Kr Das, Lankeswar Baishya and Naba Deka all prominent activists of the Assam Movement have addressed a press conference on Thursday afternoon  at ‘Swahid Bhawan’ , Mangaldai , the birth place of Assam Movement in 1979.  They also appealed all the organizations to consider in taking the path of mass agitation in a pragmatic manner rather in an emotional way without affecting any day to day life of common people including the academic atmosphere of student’s community in the state. strongly supported the ongoing movement to oppose the CAB and also condemned the Anti Assam role of the BJP. “The need of the hour is to unite all the protesting organizations under a single platform and the AASU should take the lead role in it. “During the six year long Assam Agitation demanding the deportation of illegal foreigners, the students’ community had to lose their academic years. So the leaders of the anti CAB movement should take every care to protect the academic years of the students” said Hiren Kumar Saharia while condemning the role of the BJP. He also laid stress on the need of taking up of short term and long term policy to continue the movement with the involvement all section of the society irrespective of caste, religion and language to form a common platform like the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad during the Assam Movement. Significantly he also appealed the leaders of the AASU and other agitating organizations to adopt a time specific economic agenda so that a work culture with productivity could be initiated. “The youth of the state should be encouraged to take up multi cropping agriculture instead of single cropping systemwith organic cultivation only to strengthen the economy of the state” he added. Octogenarian activist of Assam Movement Rameswar Sarma taking part in the press meet appealed to create mass movement to protect the interest of the state and its people.

 

Former activist of Assam Movement Lankeswar Baishya, Naba Kumar Deka and Bhargab Kumar Das of Mangaldai while addressing media  also strongly condemned the recent move of the state government to arrest eminent academician and senior citizen Dr. Hiren Gohain on charges of sedition.
