Students across 123 schools including national schools, BMC schools and international schools to participate
Mumbai : Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA), India’s leading International School, in association with BITS Pilani has organised ‘Infinity 2022 – The Ultimate Math Championship’ for students to flex their mathematical acumen and refine their skills in the subject. The preliminary event took place on 8th January 2022 and the final events will be conducted on 21st and 22nd January 2022. The tournament aims to enhance the analytical and thinking abilities of students by providing them with a platform where they can compete against young mathematicians from across India and Asia.
The competition identifies talent and fosters the love of mathematics through a series of contests thereby providing opportunities to enhance the participants’ skills, comprehend challenging questions and become proficient in the subject. For the second time in a row since the pandemic outbreak, the Infinity championship will be conducted virtually. This year the championship has an exponential increase in participation with 930 students including 195 teams from the senior group (grades 9 & 10) and 109 teams from the advanced group (grades 11 & 12) from a total of 123 schools across the regions. The championship goes global with young talent participating from seven different countries namely Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Srilanka, Taiwan, Bhutan and India. Dr James Tanton (Mathematician at Mathematical Association of America) & Dr Souvik Bhattacharyya (Vice-Chancellor, BITS Pilani) will be the guests of honour at the competition.

It is an incredible occasion for us to not only host the tournament but also to witness bright young minds demonstrate their prowess.”
The preliminary round of Infinity commenced with an individual round – ‘Clash of Mathematicians’, where participants competed by answering 30 challenging MCQ questions in 60 minutes followed by Math Challengers, a competition where participants collaborated as a team and solved 10 challenging math problems in 60 minutes. The top 50 teams from each of the Senior and Advanced group have qualified to the Finals, scheduled for 21st and 22nd January 2022.
On 21st January 2022, the championship will commence with an inauguration speech by Mrs Radhika Sinha, Principal, Aditya Birla World Academy, followed by a classical dance performance, teams’ introduction and a session by Dr James Tanton. The final round consists of Clash of Mathematicians, Math Challengers and Pass the Baton. Activities planned for 22nd January 2022 include Quizzitch, wherein 5 of the top teams will battle it out in a super exciting Quiz, Bulb your ideas, where teams try and solve an open-ended problem in a creative way to find an innovative solution.
The Finale would be the announcement of awards and the closing ceremony.
