Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. Donates Gift Cards to Taunton Residents Displaced by Fire

BRAINTREE and TAUNTON, MA:Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC; www.ahscinc.org), a nonprofit organization that owns and develops affordable rental communities, recently donated $1,000 Amazon gift cards to 12 households recently displaced by a fire at their 840 County residence in Taunton.

840 County, a community made up of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes (and previously known as Taunton Woods), suffered a fire on March 20.  Although the Taunton Fire Department was quickly able to gain control of the fire, 12 homes suffered smoke and fire damage.  No one was injured and residents were quickly relocated, but many suffered losses of personal property, and did not carry renters’ insurance for coverage.

In an effort to help these households replace these items, AHSC purchased 12 Amazon cards, each with a value of $1,000.  These were distributed to the affected families earlier this month.  All of the recipients were incredibly grateful for this show of generosity and support.

“We understand how devastating it can be to feel like you have to start from scratch,” said Michael J. Mattos, president and executive director of AHSC.  “Our mission is to help preserve stable housing, and we hope this gesture helps these families as they navigate this challenging time.”
