Hyderabad : The 2nd edition of the Indo-Global Healthcare Summit & Expo 2015 and the Indo-Global Pharma Expo & Summit 2015, the two events were 
Governor, ESL Narsimhan appealed to the health care and pharma fraternity to work towards bringing down the cost of medical treatment for masses in India inaugurating the event. “Given the tremendous potential of growth that India’s pharma and heal care sector has, while we make concerted towards creating a hygienic environment by every passing day the cost of medical treatment and medicines is escalating. It needs to be checked so that affordable treatment could be provided to the masses especially in rural areas,” he said. Governor also inaugurated a medical camp being organized on the sidelines of the two summits.
“These two unique events aim at identifying and sharing successful innovative models of healthcare delivery from around the world. They are going to go a long way to facilitate professionals, entrepreneurs, industry players, investors and global institutions to collaborate for taking advantage of the latest innovations and advances” observed Mr. S.B. Anumolu, President of the Indus Foundation addressing the gathering.
“The medical devices sector is the important piece of India’s healthcare pie. The Medical Technology industry in India is standing at a crucial juncture. Today, the demand has exceeded the supply of medical technology in India, depriving patients of life saving diagnosis and therapies. All the concerned stakeholders at various levels in the healthcare industry – the manufacturers, the policy makers, the healthcare providers, the insurance players and medical education institutions need to join hands for a sustained growth of Medical device industry and eventually pass the benefit to the patients,” said Dr Srinubabu Gedela, 
He further added, “Currently, import constitutes almost 70% of the Indian medical devices market. Despite strong growth rates, the market remains disproportionately small with per capita spending of less than Rs. 200. The market is forecast to grow at a 2015-2020 CAGR of 20%, making India one of the fastest growing markets in the world. Now Hyderabad is going to be the hub for medical devices as more number of medical device manufactures are eying to establish their plants. Government of India also increased the import duty on medical devices to boost the local manufacturing.”

The Summits being organized are truly unique and very important, as they have the potential of changing Indian Healthcare for the better. You deserve great credit for this effort” remarked Dr. Robert Wah, President of the American Medical Association, USA while delivering his keynote address in the pre-inaugural session of the summit.
“The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry is now growing in double digits and India is one of the top emerging pharmaceutical markets in the world. There will be new drug launches, new drug filings, and phase II clinical trials in the coming years. On the back of increasing global acceptance for use of generic medicines, continued growth in chronic therapies and greater penetration in rural markets, the Indian domestic and export market will continue to expand. The industry is expected to touch around US$ 35 billion by 2016 /17 and US$ 55 billion by 2020” said Dr. P.V.Appaji, Director General of Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (PHARMECIL).
He further added, “Under the given future opportunities in this sector, the ensuing ” Expo & Summit 2015 ” is very timely as it will provide an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing and networking for government officials, eminent scientists, research scholars and all segments of the pharmaceutical industry”. He felt that the event will help professionals, entrepreneurs, industry players, investors and global institutions to collaborate for taking advantage of the latest global innovations and scientific advances.
India’s contribution to Regulated Markets is at 55% of 15.4 Billion USD and is growing fast. India’s contribution to HIV, Oncology, Ant-malarial and anti hypertensive therapies is growing fast and our generic medicine supplied from India at affordable prices have contributed to reduced prices of innovative products to an extent of 15 – 20%.
Dr. S. Eshwar Reddy, Joint Drugs Controller of India, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, addressing the pre-inaugural session spelt out the need to ease out pharma business in India and what measures Government is taking today in that direction. “Predictable regulations in the direction to eliminate bottle necks in regulator pathways have been identified. IT enabled services are being used to facilitate the application receiving process and we are adapting to online review of all the approvals. 24 x 7 round the clock operation of our port offices is being stepped up. From the patient safety point of view we have strengthened our regulations in the area of clinical trials and production of medical devices. Finally we are going to amend our Drugs and Cosmetics Act 2015.”
He further underlined the objective of all these measures is to provide patient safety and act as a facilitator of Pharma industry in India. The imperatives of promoting the Pharma business today in India entails strengthening the man power inflow, upgradation of infrastructure and our R&D facilities besides imparting advance training to the industry professionals.”
Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao, Former Director, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences; Prof. D. Balasubramanian, Director of Research, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute also delivered their keynote addresses prior to the Governor inaugurated formally. It is said to be the most comprehensive healthcare event of its kind ever held in India. An estimated 4,000 top Indian and foreign professionals from 15 countries are taking part these two events. During these four days, 10,000 footfall is expected. Nearly 112 scientific workshops and sessions on innovations and advances will be held. 8 CME credits to be awarded to participants of the Healthcare Summit.
