New Delhi: Agratas, the global battery business of the Tata group, continues to make strong progress in building its world-class battery manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Construction is advancing rapidly across the site, with the structural steel framework now nearing completion.
Spanning 320 acres, this facility is one of the most significant investments in India’s clean energy sector, with a planned annual capacity of 20 GWh in its first phase.
More than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 staff from vendor organisations are currently engaged, accelerating progress across the site. The rapid pace of industrialisation is a major step towards contributing to India’s clean energy vision, strengthening domestic capability in advanced battery cell manufacturing.
Commenting on the current phase of development, Anand Sodha, Vice President – Supply Chain, Agratas, said:
“The progress at Sanand reflects the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring our vision to life. Each phase of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the country.”
Two Tata group companies, Tata Projects Limited and Tata Consulting Engineers are working with Agratas to bring this strategically important facility to life. Their combined expertise is helping accelerate India’s ambition to establish and expand a world leading clean energy ecosystem.
Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form, Tata Projects, stated:
“Our expertise in delivering large-scale manufacturing projects enables us to construct world-class facilities efficiently, while ensuring sustainable practices are embedded throughout the process.”
As construction advances, Agratas is also building a sophisticated and resilient supply chain, deploying advanced systems to drive efficiency and real-time visibility across the network.
State-of-the-art supply chain operations will feature an integrated sales and operations planning system that connects demand, supply and inventory management across imports, exports, and domestic movements.
Anand Sodha added:
“Our supply chain will provide resilience, visibility, and speed by design. From automation to sustainable transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while contributing to India’s clean energy mission.”
With construction gathering pace and supply chain innovations taking shape, Agratas continues to progress towards its long-term vision of powering India’s energy transition through innovation, collaboration, and sustainability.
Behind this progress is a talented and diverse team shaping the future of India’s advanced manufacturing sector. As industrialisation continues to progress, Agratas are creating new opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to contribute to meaningful, innovative, and transformative work.
