AI revenues up says Ajit Singh; Dreamliner to fly Delhi-Kolkata route tomorrow

The first commercial flight of the Boeing 787 series of Air India’s six Dreamliner aircraft grounded in January this year will take off from Delhi to Kolkata tomorrow.

Briefing newsmen Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said, out of the six Dreamliners acquired by Air India that were grounded following battery snag, two have been readied for commercial operations.

All six planes will begin operations by the end of this month and the first international flight of B-787 Dreamliner will operate on 22nd of this month. Mr. Ajit Singh also said Air India plans to acquire eight more Dreamliners by the end of this year taking its fleet strength to fourteen.

The Civil Aviation Minister said, Air India’s revenue earnings increased by 9.6 per cent and the national carrier ferried 14.05 million people in 2012-13. He also said, the net loss of Air India has also come down by 2,261 crore rupees.

He informed that the Pawan Hans Limited, has had a remarkable turnaround this year achieving a net profit of 7.70 crore rupees.
