    Akshaya Patra and Sahyog, an NGO run by Ms. Swati Kovind, the Daughter of Hon’ble President, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, Collaborate to Distribute Hygiene Kits at Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya in Delhi

    Hygiene Kits were provided to 150 underprivileged school girls at the distribution event held on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

    The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in association with Sahyog, an NGO run by Ms. Swati Kovind, the daughter of Hon’ble President, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, distributed special hygiene kits at Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya in Ishwar Nagar in Delhi. The distribution event was organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and hygiene kits were provided to 150 underprivileged school girls. Ms. Swati Kovind was present at the event.

    The school where the event was held is the first Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya in the country started by Harijan Sevak Sangh, a non-profit organisation founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1932. The school has a residential facility which is availed by 250 girls.

    Akshaya Patra has been partnering with NGOs across the country to ensure that food relief reaches vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its collaboration with Sahyog to distribute special hygiene kits to children is in continuation with its COVID-19 relief feeding efforts. Each kit contains two hand towels, two bath towels, two bath soaps, one soap case, one packet of sanitary pads, two bed sheets, one toothbrush, one toothpaste, one bottle of hair oil, one sanitiser and a packet of glucose biscuits or namkeen.

    Speaking on the partnership, Shri Shyama Kishore Dasa, Akshaya Patra representative said, “This is our second collaboration with Ms. Swati Kovind and Sahyog in as many months. In August, we had partnered with them for the distribution of essential grocery kits among workers at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Now we have collaborated for the distribution of special hygiene kits to underprivileged school girls of Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya. Children are among the worst affected during the pandemic with school closures keeping them away from the classroom. This distribution of special hygiene kits in an attempt to ensure their health and education in these difficult times.” He further added, “In terms of relief efforts, the Government is doing a commendable job despite the prevailing situation. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to them for their continued support and encouragement of our endeavours during the pandemic.”

    Akshaya Patra has been undertaking relief feeding in 20 states and one union territory through its network of kitchens. As a part of its overall relief feeding efforts, the Foundation has cumulatively served over 17.82 crore meals [as of 15 September, 2021] to people from vulnerable communities who are facing difficulty arranging food for themselves due to the COVID-19 pandemic and containment measures to curb the outbreak. In Delhi, the Foundation has so far provided 1.45 crore meals in the form of cooked food, essential grocery kits (42 meal servings), Happiness Kits for MDM beneficiaries (20 meal servings), Family Happiness Kits (120 meal servings) and Raksha Kits (21 meal servings).
