The Albatross International Junior Golf Championship (AIJGC), the third edition of which will be staged at the ITC Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon from November 22 to 25, has received a shot in the arm with the announcement that it will now carry World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, making it a premier event on the international junior calendar.
A flagship event of the Albatross Junior Tour, the 2011 edition of the AIJGC has been co-sanctioned by the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Tour, Patrick O’Toole, Director, IJGT (USA), announced in a statement.
The AIJGC is a 54-hole Stroke Play competition and its inclusion for WAGR points is an indication of the high quality of the event and the country’s growing stature in global golf, both at the professional and amateur level.
The World Amateur Golf Ranking system was instituted in 2007 and is recognized globally by tournament organizers for entry criteria for events, and covers 1,800 counting events and ranks over 5,000 players from over 70 countries in the men’s section alone.
In the women’s section, WAGR has a calendar of 1,350 counting events with over 3,100 ranked players from over 50 countries.
This announcement is a feather in the cap of the Albatross Junior Tour, and recognition for this parents’-founded organization’s dedicated efforts in providing India’s juniors a steady diet of tournament golf.
There will be plenty more to play for when top Indian and international juniors gather at the Classic next month!
