  • Hyderabad : A panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade press has presented Alcatel-Lucent with the CES 2011 Innovations Design and Engineering Award in the Integrated Home Systems category. Alcatel-Lucent’s winning ecosystem of residential gateway, application module and activation/auto configuration/management products enables seamless integration between home devices and guarantees an easier, more flexible and more cost-effective roll-out of connected home services such as home media sharing, smart metering and home automation. Building on this innovation, operators no longer have to ship, deploy and manage multiple devices for every subscriber (a costly and error-prone process), and consumers don’t have to manage all the cabling and communication and storage devices.

Alcatel-Lucent’s approach combines broadband connectivity and processing/storage capacity into a single CellPipe Residential Gateway that supports the industry’s first Residential Gateway Application Module (RGAM). The RGAM is a USB dongle functioning as a mini-PC for processing and storage, including customer experience management software and applications such as 4Home’s home automation and smart energy software. The entire package is complemented by Motive’s device and applications management expertise, enabling easy activation, auto configuration and management of devices and services.

“This single-box approach significantly reduces the home network’s complexity in terms of deployment, installation and maintenance. As such, support costs are contained and greater customer satisfaction and loyalty is achieved,” said Dave Geary, Head of Alcatel-Lucent’s Wireline activities. “By combining our innovative products and industry-leading applications, this ecosystem will become the service providers’ key to delivering the future of connected home services.”

Alcatel-Lucent’s ecosystem enables award-winning applications such as 4Home Monitoring, 4Home Control and 4Home Energy – enabling consumers to monitor and control IP cameras; control lights, appliances, HVAC systems, thermostats and motion detectors; access contacts and door locks; and monitor and analyze energy consumption readings from a Smart Meter and individual energy modules to reduce their energy bills and help the environment.
