Amarnath Yatra from Baltal Base camp temporarily suspended

In Jammu & Kashmir, the incessant rainfall since around 3:30 a.m.previous night in Udhampur area of Jammu region triggered landslides and shooting Amarnath Yatrastones leading to temporary closure of Jammu Srinagar national highway. A police official in Jammu told AIR that no fresh batch of Amarnath Yatris from Bhagwati Nagar Bade Camp left today for Base camps on Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Yatra from Baltal Base camp in central Kashmir’s Gandernal district has also been temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall in the area. Yatra camp official said, the Yatra will resume after the weather conditions improve in the region.

In the meantime, Jammu and Kashmir police issued an advisory yesterday to the pilgrims of Amarnath yatra asking them to be vigilant and stay in their campuses. The advisory came on the heels of an intelligence report that militants are planning to target 100 policemen and as many pilgrims participating in the Amarnath Yatra.
