  • At the glittering Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar event held in the national capital in early March, Ambuja Cement’s Rabriyawas plant was awarded the prestigious National Safety Award (mines).

Hon Minister of Labour and Employment, Shri Bhupendra Yadav presented the award to Manojkumar Malvi and Dilip Singh – both from the plant’s Ras-II limestone mines which has recorded the lowest injury frequency rate (per lakh man shift) in the country.

This was indeed a proud moment as it proved that Ambuja’s Zero Harm policy with its strong emphasis on improving safety parameters and reducing risks through people engagement has borne fruit. Some initiatives like the Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) program and Reward & Recognition (R&R) program have helped reiterate the focus on safety.

BBS program helps learners recognise unsafe or at-risk behaviours as a frequent cause for both minor and serious injuries. Training helps establish safe behaviour and supports employees to understand the benefits of working safely.

Meanwhile, the senior management support for Health and Safety has resulted in a Zero harm culture. Coupled with the R&R program, this motivates workmen to follow safe work practices onsite.

It is an honour to win this award – and that too being endorsed by the government at the national level. It also reflects Ambuja’s deep sense of commitment to ensure absolute safety of all its stakeholders – employees, contractors and workers – who are connected with its operations.
