New Delhi: In a bid to build a more sustainable and eco-friendly hotel, Andaz Delhi – Hyatt’s first luxury lifestyle and business hotel in India, is celebrating this World Environment Day with their multiple sustainability initiatives that aim to strengthen their vision of building a more environmentally friendly facility through innovative approaches, commitments and techniques.

Among the many sustainability initiatives undertaken by Andaz Delhi over the past few years, is the installation of an on-site water plant, which allows the hotel to provide guests with sparkling freshwater with a zero carbon footprint. They also have an on-site fully automated wet garbage composting machine, which converts wet kitchen waste into dry compost in 24 hours and is then used in the hotel’s landscaping.

Their most recent initiative towards moving to a more eco-friendly hotel includes an association with Enactus at Jesus & Mary College. Andaz Delhi has joined hands with one of their initiatives called Project Iffat, through which the hotel aims to reduce soap waste at the property. This initiative is aimed to reduce wastage but also help provide employment opportunities to underprivileged women, who are reconstructing the barely used soaps from the hotel. After which, the soaps are sold at affordable prices in slums through the Enactus community.

The hotel also holds a LEED Gold Level Certification for their environmentally conscious electricity usage and is currently employing 2% Green Power provided by Solar as well as 60% Green Power produced by Hydro plants, which helps to reduce the carbon footprint. Only 98% of the hotel’s energy-efficient LED lighting is used, resulting in better environmental performance.

Andaz Delhi is also a Zero Discharge building, which means that they recycle all wastewater created in the hotel and reuse it for the landscaping of their cooling towers and gardens. They also use highly efficient chiller plants with VFD control, as well as Air Handling Units (AHU) that are controlled by VFD and help to make Andaz Delhi a low-energy building.

Even Andaz Delhi’s modern food hall, AnnaMaya is known for its sustainable sourcing which is based on the idea of artisanal, seasonal and local products. Since its inception in 2016, AnnaMaya has inspired its guests to ‘Eat Mindfully, Shop Artisanal and Raise Awareness’.

Andaz Delhi has equipped its room with an in-room interface system that monitors and regulates the electricity and air conditioning when the room is vacant. This technology aids in the efficient use of electricity making the hotel more sustainable and environment friendly. To encourage the idea of reuse, recycle and reduce, Andaz Delhi uses paraben free wet amenities and non-plastic dry amenities in their rooms.

In addition to these, the hotel also features various rainwater collection tanks, as well as rainwater harvesting pits and trenches, which help in the prevention of soil erosion, and the collected rainwater is also used back in the hotel to promote recycling. Each day, the hotel strives to be better to the environment than before. These are some of the many steps that they have taken in the hope of a greener, better tomorrow.
