India celebrated its 75th Independence Day on August 15th. Independence Day is also a time to remind ourselves that independence is not won once and for all, but is a daily battle for our democratic freedom and our right to self-determination. Gaining independence is a never-ending process where we try to extend freedom and rights to more and more people who are still restricted by several forces from realizing their full potential.
Freedom is not freedom until it is freedom for all.
We still hesitate to extend freedom and the revolutionary ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity to a class of beings who are exploited, caged, and thoughtlessly killed all around us, every day and every second. We still, and for baseless reasons, inflict terrible violence upon the millions of non-human animals that we bring into existence for our food, clothes, and entertainment, and the lakhs of animals who live in fast-shrinking forests across the country.
This Independence Day, Animal Save Movement India marked a tribute to those lost and aroused a conscience towards all non-human beings still trapped in cages and exploited for human desires. Humans are privileged, knowing the same, we have a duty to act on injustices against all species today! The idea promulgated through the event was – none of us are free until all of us are free.
Eat plants. Plant trees.
We need a diet change now!
