  • Assam Assembly Report: Crime On The Rise In State

    Guwahati : On the autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, in a written reply to a query by Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary stated that in Assam 32,248 theft cases, 15,741 Kidnapping, 15,470 dowry crimes, 10,296 sexual harassment, 4,130 cases of rapes, 6,275 persons died in accident, 21 died in superstition, 359 robberies took place in BJP regime in Assam. In 2016, the total number of crimes recorded in Assam was 1,07,022, which went up to 1,11,118 in 2017, the minister said. It may be mentioned that about 45 thousand cases of crime against women took place in the regime so far, while 56 extremists have been killed, seven security personnel also lost their lives in addition to injuries to 14 other security persons, he added.
