  • Assam Chief Minister paid deep tribute to martyrs of historic peasants’ uprising of Pathorughat in Darrang district.

    Mangaldai : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged upon the youths of the State to adopt agriculture for self employment with modern scientific thoughts . ‘ If you have completed your college education,  then come forward to adopt agriculture for self employment with modern scientific thoughts .

    Thus you can lead dignified livelihood. ” ,Chief Minister said . He was addressing the open session of the Krishak Swahid Divas celebration in memory of the 140 martyrs of the peasants uprising in 1894 on January 28 . Sonowal in his speech also said that his government has been making all possible efforts to recognize the glorious episode of pre freedom struggle in the national level. Earlier Chief Minister paid floral tribute to peasants martyrs on the martyrs memorial tomb and inaugurated the rupees five crore Integrated Agriculture Project and Skill Development Centre which is still looked to be completed. Speaking on the occasion State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora claimed that the State agriculture department has set up cold storage , rice mills etc in each assembly constituencies for the benefits of local farmers .

    He in the same breath charged the Congress of doing nothing and pushing the state agriculture sector to a very poor state . The open session of the two day Krishak Divas celebration was also  addressed by Parliamentarian of Mangaldai Loksabha Dilip Saikia,  two BJP lagislators of the district Binanda Kumar Saikia and Gurujyoti Das .  Twenty two local progressive farmers’ group were felicitated on the occasion of the celebration which was organized by the Agriculture Department in support of the district administration.
