Kokrajhar: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday attended the 14th foundation day celebration of Central Institute of Technology, Kokajhar and laid the foundation stone of Academic Building IV, in presence of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary at the CIT campus here in Kokrajhar.

The 7 storey Academic Building IV of the premier technical institute will be constructed at the cost of Rs 138 crore in an area of 31000 sq metres.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said education, sports and culture are three important segments to establish a strong society and stressed the need of quality education for all round development of the society.  He called upon the guardians, teachers to guide their children in pursuing quality education. He also called upon the students to study work hard to excel in life saying that hard work is the only way for success.

Assuring all possible help for the development of Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar, the chief minister expressed his hope that the premier technical institute will be a unique institution for national integrity vis a vis giving excellence technical education to the students coming from across the country.

Lauding the BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, the chief minister said BTAD could occupied a place in the development map of India within short span of years as development in all sectors have become visible under Mohilary led Council.

He also said the state government has taken up many innovative schemes in agriculture sector and thus the products of state farmers have reached in the world markets.

The BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary in his speech said the CIT has been upgraded to make it deemed to be university and it will be a centre of excellence for technical education. He said the institution will cater the need of technical education in BTC area as well as in the region. He also said that they had been trying to pursue the government of India for setting up of IIT and IIM in BTC.

The foundation day celebration of CIT was also attended by Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary, Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, BTC executive members-Doneswar Goyary and Rajib Brahma, Director of CIT Deb Kumar Chakravarty, BTC IGP-Anurag Agarwal, Principal Secretary of BTC-Biren Chandra Phukan, Registrar of CIT Chaitali Brahma among others.
