Guwahati : Taking opportunity of the Citizenship Amendment Bill issue in Assam, not only the opposition but members of BJP have allegedly involved themselves in conspiracy against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. BJP MLA Rituparna Baruah has alleged that many from the opposition as well as their own party have been trying to defame the CM, for which financial aid too has been provided.Speaking at an event in Tinsukia, where the CM was also present, Baruah urged the people to have faith in Sonowal. Baruah said “Our CM had discarded the IMDT Act, he has been working relentlessly to solve the migration issue since he was a student leader. But now, a serious conspiracy is being weaved against him”. “The conspiracy may be from the opposition, it may be from some members from our own party or people who have negative thoughts for Assam” he added. Baruah also said that many people comment on the Citizenship Amendment Bill without proper knowledge. At a time when people of the state are firmly voicing against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Lahowal BJP legislator Rituparna Baruah said that the protests are a “planned” conspiracy against chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The MLA also expressed apprehensions that “somebody from inside the party” is part of the conspiracy. Speaking during a public programme, where Sonowal too was present, Baruah stated that a group with vested interests is trying to “ruin the image” of Sonowal. “A Golaghat-based group is pumping a huge amount of money to carry out the protest activities. I feel that someone from inside the party is associated with the conspiracy. There is a section of people who don’t like Upper Assam. People from the opposition parties might also be involved,” said Baruah. Recently, Sonowal faced massive protests from anti-Citizenship bill protestors at Charaideo. This is the first time Sonowal came face-to-face with protestors of the Bill. Ever since unrest erupted in the state over the Centre’s proposed bill, Sonowal had to face ire of the public and opposition parties for “not making his stand clear and voicing against the Bill”. Baruah also stated that the “role” of peasant leader Akhil Gogoi is “suspicious”. “There was a time when Gogoi protested against Sonowal when the government wanted to evict illegal Bangladeshis from Kaziranga. And today, he has surprisingly developed so much love for Assam and people of the state. These protests against the Bill and Sonowal are planned activities,” said the BJP MLA. Meanwhile, another Assam BJP MLA threatened to quit if Hindu Bangladeshis are given settlement. Speaking during a cultural programme on May 26, Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika assured the public that he will not support the bill or settlement of Bangladeshis irrespective of their religion at any cost.
