  • Assam Government announces compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to martyred jawans and Rs 1 lakh to injured

    GUWAHATI : The situation has gone out of control as much as the Union Home Ministry has so far made to pacify the two sides over the border dispute between Assam and Mizoram. Despite all the efforts of the Home Ministry, it is not coming under control so far. So far, there has been growing excitement from both sides of the border areas.

    This is the first time in the history of the country that the Chief Ministers of two states of Assam and Mizoram are accusing each other of violent clashes over the state’s border. Police in both the states have come out against each other following the death of six Assam Police personnel and 3 others. Four TEAMS of CRRPF have been deployed in sensitive areas along the state border. At the same time, 6 teams have been asked to be prepared. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today gave details of the incidents of death of 6 police personnel and 3 others during clashes with their Mizoram counterparts in the disputed border area.On the other hand, the Assam government has announced rs 50 lakh to the next of kin of police personnel who died in assam-Mizoram tension. Six Assam Police personnel and 3 others, who were guarding the “constitutional border” of the state, were killed and 73 others, including a Superintendent of Police, were injured when the border dispute between Assam and Mizoram turned into a sudden bloody clash.

    The Assam government has announced compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the martyred jawans and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid floral tributes to the policemen who were martyred in the Assam-Mizoram border clash in Silchar. The Chief Minister also rushed to Silchar Medical College to meet the injured police officers and directed the doctors to ensure their best treatment. The districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi in The Barak Valley of Assam share a 164 km long border with three districts of Mizoram namely Aizawl, Kolasim and Mamit.

    There are incidents of disputes and tensions between the two States day in and day out over land.The people who were driven out are said to have been from Mizoram. Thereafter, the controversy escalated and an IED bomb was also hurled at the Assam government team which was on a border tour on July 10. On the morning of July 11, two explosions were heard one after the other from mizoram area. Tension is said to have arisen after eight huts were burnt by unidentified miscreants along the Mizoram-Assam border. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned Amit Shah over the clash on assam-Mizoram border.

    The Congress said in a statement that it is a matter of great concern that on the one hand the Chief Ministers of both the states were openly arguing on Twitter, on the other hand tensions were rising. What policies were adopted to reduce border disputes?’ The Congress added, ‘It is a matter of great public concern as well as appalling humour that the two Chief Ministers belong to the NADA (North-East Democratic Alliance) alliance but are openly arguing with each other on the Twitter handle and have also tagged the Home Minister and the Prime Minister. Condemning the violence, the Assam Ethnic Council (AJP) said the incident assumes greater importance as it took place a day after the chief ministers of the north-eastern states met. AJP said governments in both Assam and Mizoram are part of THE NADA, convened by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in violence triggered by the sudden escalation of the Assam-Mizoram border dispute and alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah has once again disappointed the country by “sowing the seeds of hatred and distrust in the lives of the people”. Sharing a video related to the violence, he tweeted, “Deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed.

    I wish the injured a speedy recovery. The Congress leader claimed, “The Home Minister has once again disappointed the country by sowing the seeds of hatred and distrust in the lives of the people.India is now suffering from catastrophic results. Assam Congress leader MLA Kamalakhya Purkayastha on Tuesday demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should resign from his post. The Congress leader made the statement while addressing the media through a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan today. Purkayastha said a Congress party representative will reach Silchar tomorrow to address the ongoing tension in assam-Mizoram borders. He further asked, “The Union Home Minister came to Assam, discussed border issues, how does such an incident happen?” He said a government that cannot protect its people should resign. The opposition party has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah from the post.
