Assam government takes action against drug mafia, Kokrajhar police recover stake worth Rs 1 crore

Guwahati :Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a campaign against drug cartels in Assam and border areas, which has banned money-making illegal businesses. In another breakthrough in the fight against drugs, Kokrajhar police on Tuesday morning recovered a large consignment of ganja weighing 622 kg worth Rs 1 crore. Police have recovered the drug from a secret room hidden inside a truck in Kokrajhar. Two accused have also been arrested in the case. Kokrajhar police took to Twitter to inform about the development.

He wrote, “Another jack-pot bust; We just keep rolling ‘! In another major breakthrough in the fight against drugs, 622 kg of marijuana worth Rs 1 crore was recovered from a secret chamber hidden inside a truck. Two accused have been arrested and further investigation is on to trace the drug network. “Meanwhile, Kokrajhar police have launched an investigation into the seizure.The heavy seizure of ganja by the police is in line with the Assam government’s drive against illegal drug trafficking in the state. It may be mentioned that on 4th June, Nagaon police conducted raids and on the basis of information sealed 15 betel nut godowns that Burmese betel nut was being kept for blending with locally supplied betel nut for illegal benefit. On July 17 and 18, drugs worth Rs 163 crore were burnt under the supervision of Himanta Biswa Sarma in four different parts of Assam to send a message of zero tolerance for illegal drugs. This betel nut is used to make pan masala. In order to save darsal tax, it is diverted into India through smuggling.
