Guwahati : Bringing the coveted ‘Black Leady” along with the best of Indian superstars to the state of the very first time , Filmfare today announced that the prestigious 65th Filmfare Awards 2020 will be held in Guwahati, Assam. The prestigious black lady is all set to enthrall Bollywood stars yet again as the 65th Filmfare Awards were announced today. For the first time ever the prestigious award function will be hosted outside Mumbai. Assam government has signed a MoU with the Times of India Group to host the extravagant Bollywood event in Guwahati next year. The Government of Assam, on Monday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Times Group to host the prestigious Filmfare Awards in Guwahati. Notably, this is the first time in over six decades that the ‘black lady’ will be presented outside Mumbai, the capital of Bollywood. During the ceremony held at the Vivanta by Taj hotel in Khanapara area, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his happiness, and said that the hosting of the prestigious event would help take Assam to the national stage and showcase it as “one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the country.”

Vineet Jain, the Managing Director of Times of India Group said that this is an effort by the company to “diversify” its reach. “Choosing Assam, a state rich in the performing arts, crafts, and music further extends the legacy of the Filmfare awards”, Jain said.Chandan Brahma, Tourism Minister, Assam, said that hosting of a mega event like the Filmfare in Assam, will go a long way in changing the perception about the state.It may be mentioned here that the Filmfare Awards are presented annually by ‘The Times Group’ to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the film industry of India. The Filmfare ceremony is one of the oldest film events in India. The awards were first introduced in 1954. Guwahati is hosting the award show as part of the state government’s initiative to use Bollywood’s influence to promote Assam tourism at national and international levels.The event, worth anything between Rs 20 and Rs 30 crore, is likely to be held on February 15, 2020 is likely to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Amingaon.Authorities from the Assam government on August 10 said that Rs. 300 Crore has been sanctioned to promote the state as a global tourist destination.The Filmfare Awards were first introduced by The Times Group in 1954, the same year the National Film Awards were announced.
