GUWAHATI : The Asom Jatiya Parishad has demanded the government to ban the remix play ‘Lovita’, which is currently being staged at Avahan Theatre. In a press release sent to the media, party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan said, “Jyotiprasad Agwala’s landmark play ‘Lovita’ of Rupkonwar is a distortion of the cultural heritage of the nation and the nation.

Didn’t the producers and actors of the theatre, despite being Assamese at all, prevent the play of Jyotiprasad Agarwala of Rupkonwa from being presented on stage in a distorted manner?” Gogoi and Bhuyan said that as a result of the BJP government’s efforts to create beneficiaries in the cultural sector as well as weakening the foundation of the state’s economy by creating beneficiaries with free schemes, today there has been a lot of royal influence in the cultural field and as a result the cultural heritage of the nation has to be challenged in this way.

Terming the distortion of Assamese theatrical literature as an intellectual crime, Gogoi and Bhuyan said that if rupkonwar’s play ‘Lovita’ is allowed to be presented in such a distorted way, all the history and traditions of the nation will be distorted in the future. He urged people to be accountable.
