  • Assam : More Than 162,000 People In 545 Villages Affected By Flood

    Guwahati : Due to the incessant rain lashing the entire North-eastern region, the massive flood has been reported from across the state of Assam. Because of the rainwater descending down from the neighboring areas — Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan — over 162,000 people have been affected across various districts in the state.  In the report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 545 villages are underwater and 3,435 hectares of crop areas have been affected so far in the flood. Moreover, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it has been forecast that heavy rain will continue in the state in the next few days. Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh Barpeta, Chirang are the districts that have undergone serious damages. Roads and bridges connectivity have been highly damaged in many of the places. Rivers such as Brahmaputra, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Subansiri, Aai, Puthimari, and Beki have reached the ‘danger level’, as informed by the ASDMA.Several embankments have been breached; while roads and bridges have been damaged at various places in the above districts With rising water level, erosion have also taken toll at various places. Rivers such as Brahmaputra, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari, Subansiri, Aai and Beki are flowing above the danger level, informed ASDMA.
