  • Assam NRC: Government of Nagaland ordered to strengthen entry points

    Guwahati : An official said that the Nagaland government has ordered all entry points and check gates to be strengthened by the police to prevent any possible flooding in view of the publication of the final NRC list in neighboring Assam. The officer said that orders to this effect were issued by Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijeet Sinha on Monday. “Non-local people entering the state should not be allowed without a valid pass issued by the district administration and any unusual flow of outsiders without a valid pass should be immediately brought to the knowledge of the district administration.”All village, city and municipal authorities have been asked to take measures to strictly monitor the influx of people from outside the state in violation of existing rules and norms. It has also been said that the ancestors of any new tenants should be properly checked and verified by the district administration and police. The district administration and police are to strictly monitor the regulation of Inner Line Permit (ILP), especially in the border areas. Various civic organizations in Nagaland, including the Central Naga Tribes Council and the Naga Students’ Federation, urged the state government to take steps to curb the possible influx of those included in the final list of NRC published in Assam on 31 August.
