New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday accused the Modi Governemt and BJP for their involvement in the Augusta Westland case. While addressing the media on the “revelation on BJP involvement in Augusta Westland case” Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said “Augusta Westland benefactor, protector and supporter is truly the Modi Government.”

The congress leader said that it was the UPA-Congress Government that ordered a CBI investigation against Augusta Westland and if there was corruption therein. “It was the Congress-UPA Government which proceeded to cancel the Augusta Westland contract. It was the Congress- UPA Government which recovered Rs. 2,954 crore from Augusta against a total payment given to them of Rs. 1,600 crore, that means virtually Rs. 1,400 crore extra were recovered from them. It was the Congress-UPA Government which proceeded to blacklist the company, order of which came a month after us demitting power. “

Surjewala  further alleged that Prime Minister Modi had “successively protected Augusta Westland (a) by undoing its blacklisting (b) by making it part of ‘Make in India’; (c) by giving it FIPB permission and permission to manufacture AW-119 Helicopter and (d) by permitting it to bid for Naval Helicopters.”

He said that the recent revelations only proved what the congress party was “saying all along that this Government is trying to manufacture evidence on the verge of the election to only indulge in blame-game, but, howsoever mud they may throw, the truth remains that Prime Minister Modi and his Government are the protector, benefactor and the supporter of Augusta Westland and their role needs to be actually probed.”
