Australian Labor Party (ALP) has regained a narrow lead in the federal election race with less than two weeks to go, the latest Newspoll showed on Monday.
The poll, published in The Australian newspaper on Monday, gave Labor a 52-48 lead on a two-party preferred basis, up from an even 50-50 result last week.
Julia Gillard has slipped one point in the preferred prime minister stakes but still leads Opposition Leader Tony Abbott 49 percent to 34 percent.
The number of people satisfied with the way Abbott is doing his job dropped by three points to 41 percent.
Labor’s primary vote is up one point to 38 percent while the Coalition has slumped two points to 42 percent.
The Greens’ share of the primary vote edged up one point to 13 percent.
The latest Newspoll was conducted by telephone from Friday to Sunday and involved 1,712 interviews around Australia.
Australian federal election date was set on 21 August.
