  • Ayurveda more effective than Allopathy for heart health, says new study

    Bengaluru : In a major breakthrough, a research conducted by Madhavbaug, an Ayurveda specialist in treating and reversing cardio metabolic disorders has revealed that Ayurveda treatment and therapies are more effective than modern medicines in significantly reducing various risk factors posing threat to the smooth functioning of the heart. The study also found that the hospitalisation and long-term (36 months) mortality rate among heart patients who sought Ayurveda remedies were comparatively less when compared to patients who took allopathic treatment.

    The study was done over a period of three years on 572 patients with various comorbidities like chronic heart failure, post myocardial infarction, post percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, hypertension, obesity, arthritis and diabetes among others.

    Explaining the findings of the study before the participants at the recently concluded 9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) held in Panjim, Goa, Dr Rohit Sane, founder of Madhavbaug said heart patients who took Panchakarma therapies and followed strict

    Current data of Ayurveda diet coupled with mild exercises like Pranayama and meditation showed a significant improvement in lipid profile and an average 29 per cent reduction in Longitudinal Plaque in their arteries. Plaque is the build-up of fats, cholesterols and other substances on the inner walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the Madhavbaug’s exhibition stall after inaugurating the WAC, was also briefed by Dr Sane about their heart and diabetes disease reversal programmes. 

    “Our ancient healing science is underutilised in terms of conquering the growing mortality and hospitalisation due to coronary artery disease. Our clinical studies showed that non-invasive and low cost Ayurveda remedies are more effective in combating cardiac ailments. We want to make Ayurveda the first line of treatment for critical illness including cardiac ailments. We want to ‘Heal The World’ through our scientific evidence based Ayurveda,” said Dr Rohit Sane, founder, Madhavbaug.

    The patients who participated in the study were put under strict dietary management for three months. They were asked to follow a high ORAC value diet to control inflammation and reverse accumulated cholesterol. They were also administered 21 Panchakarma therapies during the period.

    Recent Research article accepted by the Annals of clinical cardiology demonstrate that post Ayurveda and diet modification 36 months of hospitalisation for heart attack was 9.09%, comparing to ISCHEMIA trial where PTCA and only medicine hospitalization was 13.3% and 15.5% respectively, Ayurveda treatment and diet has succeeded to prevent hospitalisation due to Heart attack.

    As per ISCHEMIA trial Mortality rate after PTCA and Allopathy Medication over 36 months is 6.4%and 6.5% respectively, while the Ayurveda group has shown 5.08% mortality even after 26 months.

    One clinical study also showing that the Ayurveda can be helpful to control Cholesterol to reduce longitudinal atherosclerotic plaque volume by 29%.
