UN chief Ban Ki-moon to arrive in Pak Saturday

UN chief Ban Ki-moon will arrive in Islamabad Saturday and visit the areas battered by the worst-ever floods in the country.

Ban will assess losses due to the floods and the UN has already appealed for nearly USD 460 million in emergency aid for providing relief to the victims.

UN humanitarian chief John Holmes had said that the money is needed to help 14 million people, who have been affected.

President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed Ban’s visit, saying he is happy that the UN chief is visiting Pakistan at a time the nation is facing its worst-ever floods.

UN and Pakistani officials say that floods have killed some 1,600 people and displaced nearly 20 million others.

Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry will also visit Pakistan on 18th August to review the floods losses and damages, officials said.
