  • Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was inspired by Gandhiji during his formative stage of leadership.

    She said that Gandhiji’s love for common people and ideals of non-violence contributed to shaping Bangabandhu’s vision of struggle against oppression and tyranny by the then Pakistani rulers against the peace-loving Bengalees.

    Paying her tributes during an event organized at UN to Commemorate 150 years of Gandhiji, Prime Minister Hasina said that Gandhi’s principles of tolerance, non-violence & harmonious coexistence will continue to guide people as they seek to build nations. She said that Gandhiji’s philosophy of life can effectively address global concerns like hunger, poverty and impacts of climate change.

    Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on an eight-day official visit to the USA to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). She will address the UN on September 27.
