Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance Secretary General claimed : 2.5 crore Bangladeshis ready to come to India, if the CAB is passed.

Guwahati : Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance Secretary General Govinda Chandra Pramanik claimed that around 2.5 crore Bangladeshis ready to come to India, if the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed. He claimed that if that happens, the entire demography of Assam and North East will change irreparably. The Hindu religious leader accused the BJP-led government of provoking Hindu Bangladeshis to come to India. “BJP should send out a strong message to Bangladesh government that attack on minorities will not be tolerated, the Bangladesh government is very friendly towards the minorities but we feel that if BJP steps in, it will be more fruitful,” Pramanik added. Pramanik also said that India should put pressure on Bangladesh to take back Hindu refugees. It may be mentioned that the BJP openly gave the issue a communal tinge by setting double standards, embracing the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrant as a “refugee” and deriding the Muslim as an “infiltrator”. A large section of people and organisations in the northeast have opposed the bill saying it would nullify the provisions of the Assam Accord of 1985, which fixed March 24, 1971, as the cut-off date for deportation of illegal immigrants irrespective of religion.He further claimed that as per Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, there are around 2.5 crore Hindus, which is 15.7 per cent of that country’s total population. “If the Bill is passed, this will pave the ways for these 2.50 crore people in Bangladesh to come to India and get Indian nationality as there is no cut-off date in the Bill. Massive protests broke out across the state after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Silchar on January 4 in this year that the legislation would be passed as soon as possible in Parliament.
