  • Bangladesh: People want commission to unmask 1975 plotters, says Information Minister

    Information Minister of Bangladesh, Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Thursday that people wanted a commission to be set up to unmask the plot that led to the killing of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family in 1975. Speaking at a discussion organised on Thursday by the Film Archives of Bangladsh in Dhaka he said the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was actually a conspiracy to kill Bangladesh as an independent nation.

    The ruling Awami League’s Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim also said in Gopalganj on Thursday that a commission will be formed to identify the masterminds of murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

    Earlier Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had told the parliament in April this year that the government is actively considering to set up  a commission to identify the masterminds of Bangabandhu’s murder.

    Founder President of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with 16 of his family members on 15th August 1975. His daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister survived as they were abroad at the time of the attack.
