Mumbai : It is obviously a human instinct to be an important person in the society so that everybody cares, caresses and honours.

Similarly, one wishes by nurturing a long-cherished dream to hog the limelight in one’s lifetime and soar to the pinnacle of one’s career graph.
Nevertheless, this tour de force (feat of strength) can’t be achieved overnight as it needs lots of perseverance and the right perspective to inch forth towards one’s goal.

To excel in one’s career doesn’t mean that one has to be the captain or team leader. Pursuing one’s task earnestly and proving to be promising in exhibiting the god-gifted latent talent as well as scripting success story matters the most, view myriad of motivators.

Myth goes that the tiny squirrel even earned accolades and laurels from Lord Rama for having played its praiseworthy part among the big brigade of ‘banar sena’ (colossal contingent of monkeys) during the construction of ‘setu bandh’  (well-known as Adam’s Bridge today) in the then ‘Tretaya Yuga’  across the sea, (today’s southernmost part of Bay of Bengal/the coastal corner of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu), linking the kingdom of Lanka owned by demon king Ravana as depicted in the great Hindu epic of “Ramayana”.    Also, Indian ‘nightingale’ Lata Mangeshkar and her legendary male counterpart late Mohammed Rafi were initially members of Bollywood playback’s singing choral group.

Not only lady luck smiled on them, but also their unique voice quality as well as ‘gaeki’ (style of singing) enabled them to be the lead singers.
Pertinent to note that, both Lata and Rafi carved a niche of their own by dint of their extraordinary talent and god-gifted voice quality. Thus, they ascended the career ladder being in their individual best self.

It is applicable in everybody’s case, be it a professional of any genre.
Quintessentially, we have to aptly tap the requisite aptitude and strike the right chord.

One ought to know well when, where and how to “make hay when the sun shines.”

Also, one ought to possess the caliber of picking and choosing the right book to materialize one’s entrusted assignment.

Because, the great English essayist Francis Bacon has wisely diagnosed: “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, some few to be chewed and digested” – It means that some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read, but not curiously; and some few are to be read wholly with diligence and attention.

As per the prescriptions by the modern day motivators of career building, one should better concentrate religiously being realistic and rational in solving the jigsaw puzzle than building castle in the air assuming the airs of bossism bellowing out false vanity.  The experts opine that the traditional parameters and landscape of professionalism have conclusively changed keeping pace with the need of the hour and advancement in technology. Hence, the professionals of the current era are expected to keep abreast with the moves.

Requisite technical skills and expertise are more warranted in an individual despite being in a team.

Of course, close coordination is needed among the team members to maintain sync with each other, but there is less need for a team leader/boss/manager to dictate the terms as a conventional shepherd or cattle tenders, argue the career experts.

A judicious professional of today should realize well how to contribute the best and strive for understanding his/her limitations.

The more one enjoys the project wholeheartedly, the rate of success is deemed to be closer to the target/goal having set.

Even that spirit of work motivates one to work overtime. Because, the tempo must not break midway so that the resumption turns out cumbersome.

The scale and gravity of self contribution to the company, that paves path to the firm’s name, fame and growth, charts one’s progress along the career ladder, remark the experts and motivators in the sphere of career building.  Besides, learning and intellectual pursuit is an unending flow of wisdom. Even a teacher must not stop learning and gaining knowledge, or else he/she becomes a gone case of the proverbial “little learning is very dangerous”.

The learned lot is of the opinion that a teacher is a lifelong student.
Although any one enterprising and industrious has ascended to the top position of one’s career ladder, he/she should not stop there to recline. Rather, drink life to the lees so that the world could be taken in one’s stride.

For this, self introspection and assessment is a must that prompts us to mend the wall utilizing the wisest ways and means with utmost humility.
One must always remember: “It’s good to be important, but it’s more important to be good.”
