  • Jamshedpur: SIGMA-oikos Jamshedpur, a social initiative student group at XLRI conducted Basic English Learning Program-BELP in online mode for students of SOS Youth Homes in Raipur for around 4 months starting from August. Each session was organized by team SIGMA with the help of volunteers from XLRI, who had taken classes for the kids every weekend. The sessions were aimed at imparting basic knowledge of English grammar and improving their communication skills so the students would become more comfortable with the language, and it would help them in the future.

On the last day of the program, easy-to-read storybooks and chocolates were sent to the students as a small token from the team. SIGMA continues to collaborate with SOS in their efforts to provide students with opportunities for a brighter future by preparing them for competitive examinations and admissions to renowned schools across India.

SIGMA-oikos Jamshedpur, a social initiative student group at XLRI working under the guidance of Prof. Raghu Ram Tata, Chairman FACES (Fr Arrupe Centre for Ecology & Sustainability) & Prof. Madhukar Shukla, has been providing academic support to under-privileged students every year. Educational courses like English and Computer literacy are a regular activity conducted by this group, along with extra-curricular activities like dance, singing, and art & craft sessions. This year, the program had to be scaled to a virtual format due to the pandemic.
