  • Best and Easy Method to Make Hand Sanitizer at Home

    Published on March 12, 2020

Washing your hands with soap is better, but if you have no soap and water, hand sanitizer is the second-best thing. Commercial hand sanitizer can get expensive, and with the shortage of hand sanitizer due to COVID-19, you may have to resort to making your own.

Alcohol based sanitizer preparation (1000 ml)

    Key ingredients:

Isopropyl Alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol with a purity of 99.8%), 751.5 ml

    Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) 3%, 41.7 ml

    Glycerol 98%, 14.5 ml

    Aloe vera Gel (If required)

    Essential Oil (Any flavor)

Pour the alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and glycerol into a bowl and mix it well using a spoon to make it into a smooth mixture. Hydrogen peroxide in the mixture helps to kill the germs in the ingredients or the container that we use and glycerol helps in moisturizing the hands.  Add spoonful of aloe vera gel to make the solution thicker; aloe gel is also a good moisturizer. If it goes thicker, to make it thin add another spoonful of alcohol.

Next, add the essential oil drop by drop at a time with constant stirring. Smell the mixture and add accordingly. Essential oil provides additional antiseptic properties to the mixture.

Top up the bowl to 1000 ml with distilled water or water that has been boiled and cooled; stir the bowl gently to mix the content.

Empty the mixture into a container and use it while washing.
